I have recorded both the drums and guitar to my Seven Nation Army track.
I recorded the drums first, using the Glyn John microphone technique. I did this because it is a versatile and replicable microphone technique that yields impressive results.
Two of the three microphones I used were a pair of AKG1000S - one of which was placed overhead the snare drum, the other placed parallel to the drummer, over the floor tom. The third microphone was a Sennheiser E602, used to close mic the kick drum. I have done this to achieve a prominent kick drum sound within my track. To achieve a true Glyn Johns microphone placement, the two overhead microphones are placed equidistant from the snare, this is done to avoid phasing issues.
