I have recorded vocals to the Beatles song Yesterday with vocalist Charlotte Ward.
The vocals were recorded using a Rode NT2A microphone. I used a Rode NT2A because it is a versatile microphone with a flat and wide frequency response, so it is suited to all kinds of vocal ranges, and with high SPLs of 157dB to allow it to record louder recordings well.
We also recorded using the NT2A because it is Charlotte's personal preference over the Genesis microphone which we initially used for recording vocals at the start of the project, because it gives a warmer sound, and is better suited to Charlotte's vocals.
I have recorded the song onto an 8-track analogue tape recorder, rather than a digital sequencer. I did this because to emulate the recording methods of the Beatles and other bands of a similar era. After some difficulties, the recording was complete and had a different, more vintage sound than it otherwise would have on a digital sequencer.
However, one issue that i encountered during the mixing process was that drumming from an adjacent room had leaked into the recording, which has been difficult to remove with EQ.
Because of this, if I were to record this again, i would ensure that no other sound would leak into the track's recording
