The creative elements of A Day in the Life came about from Lennon recording his verses for the song, but feeling it was still incomplete, he approached McCartney for help in finishing the song. McCartney had been working on another song, and despite their two songs sounding vastly different, the pair set about combining their pieces together. They agreed to place McCartney’s parts between Lennon’s verses, and to bring the two together, George Martin created an “orchestral climax” to fill a twenty four bar gap between Lennon and McCartney’s recordings.
